Recreation Room Update

Recreation Room Redecorating Project

September 1, 2012

At our last AGM, the Owners approved the use of funds remaining from the Interior Redecorating Project for this project. A committee of interested owners was formed and started meeting at the beginning of May. Discussion included frequency of use of the room, budget, and the roles the room is expected to meet. Several quotes were obtained for the various components of the project as well as quotes on having existing furniture recovered. Council was approached and approved additional funding from the Recreation Room account to cover costs.

Work completed:

  • north-east wall was soundproofed and drywalled
  • the entire room, including ceilings, was painted
  • kitchenette cabinets and bar painted
  • sauna washrooms, sauna hall and ceilings painted
  • new carpeting was installed
  • new handles installed on cabinets
  • new floor lamps and ceiling lamps installed
  • existing tile floor and stone fireplace front were scrubbed and steam cleaned
  • new table tops were purchased and installed on existing table bases
  • new chairs were purchased
  • the two wall murals were repainted in grey rather than black

Paint colour matches the colours used in the strata hallways and doors. We did not purchase the same carpet as the cost was prohibitive but the new carpet matches in type and colour.

Several owners popped into the Recreation Room as work was nearing completion and very positive feedback was received on the new, neutral look.

Many thanks to the committee members who helped in the planning phase: Joel Levine, Jenny Garrels and to the late Jay Booker. Bill Babchuk was an invaluable and tireless contributor to the Committee and was available to answer any queries I had along the way. Thanks also to Raimo Hietakangas, who helped with the lighting, Horace Leung who worked on the wall mural and Moe Parisien who assembled the tables, painted on the mural, and helped on final clean-up of the room.

We should all be proud of the volunteers we have at Vanier Court. It’s a great way to meet your neighbours!
